compass - money
All our learners are trained and supported to use a till, which means they gain skills with handling money and working out correct change. For this reason we accept cash only.

Lee has gained so much confidence on the till and will always stop for a chat with customers.
compass home cooked
Our cakes are homemade at the Lowestoft Community Hub.  All our learners have food hygiene certificates and work beside staff to make a range of tasty treats!

Here is Leon making our most popular cakes... carrot cake and Victoria sponge!

Compass Café in the news!

compass cafe news

Our fantastic team was featured in The Lowestoft Journal as it highlighted The Compass Café as a successful local project that helps adults with learning disabilities and autism develop skills that are useful to help them live independently and gain employment. It not only helps our learners to develop workplace skills, but it is invaluable in building confidence as well the social aspect of meeting and interacting with a range of people.

compass cafe
The Compass Café is a community café based at the Lowestoft library offering work experience and learning to adults with a learning disability and or autism. We won the Catering & Hospitality category in the 2017 Suffolk Care Awards.

We offer placements for people to develop a work ethic and associated skills like timekeeping, personal presentation, working with people and being part of a team. This project offers learners a chance to work in the catering field both in the café and in the local Community Hub canteen where they cover all the aspects of catering preparing snacks and light meals. Learners are encouraged to participate in all aspects of catering through a series of five learning modules. Each module, when passed, will be certificated with a final completion certificate when all modules are successfully completed.
